So, I was cleaning up after my bird show, and I had to ask two older ladies to excuse me and let me by with the large perches. As I come back, my eye catches something on the ladies arm and upon a careful (and I hope subtle look) I see that it's a tattoo of a series of numbers. The branded ID they gave in concentration camps. Kind of caught me off guard, and also, as I thought about it, made me thankful and appreciative of well, a lot of things.
Still hit hard, you read about it in history, and I suppose, now and then when a reminder shows itself even in the smallest of forms that horrible things happened and people can and will overcome.

I just made a horrible mistake, and it almost cost me Merlins life. The tears are still coming, she seems to be doing better, but she going to the vets tomorrow regardless, while I will forever hate myself.
I took my loves out, and they where playing on their playground, nothing new. I figured Id be safe to get a quick drink cause they where throughly emraptured by a new toy I had put on, I came back literally minutes later and the birds where no longer on their playground. Gandalf was on his high perch and Merlin was no where to be found, no chiprs, no movement no nothing, I frantically search me room careful that she might be on the floor, but I found her, she somehow managed to wedge her head between my bed and a stuffed animal. When I picked her up her wings where spread, she was panting for air, and very lethargic. I honestly feel that if I hadnt had found her when I did she would have died. Im so tormented, I feel horrible, like the worse bird owner ever. Shes cooled down her wings are closed, and I just put her in her cage to drink some water and eat her seed and millet. Shes drank water, but no food yet. but for a while before I put her up,she was doing her creening 'im a baby' noise, wich had me rattled to no end.
I called the emergency vet a little while ago, He told me to keep an eye on her and if shes still lethargic tomorrow, to take her in. She is perking up more, her little crest is perked, shes walking the cage a bit. Shes clinging to her favorite toy. Im still takeing her in, to be fully safe.
My mother said mistakes happen to the best of them, and that St. Fransis was watching out for me, and that I need to stop beating myself up, and never take them for granted again. But regardless, lesson learned . never NEVER leave your bird out of their cage alone, even if its for a minute. I did and it almost cost me my little girls life.
